Spider Control

Ready to Get Started?

Southern California doesn’t have a spider off-season. Our Mediterranean climate keeps Black Widows, Brown Widows, Wolf Spiders, and Cellar Spiders active year-round — with pressure peaking from April through November. As temperatures climb, spiderlings disperse by ballooning: releasing silk filaments on warm updrafts to travel anywhere from a few feet to several miles. New infestations don’t just walk in through the front door.

What most homeowners don’t know: the Brown Widow has been steadily displacing the Black Widow across urban Southern California since the early 2000s. They’re harder to spot, they favor exposed surfaces like patio furniture and chain-link fencing, and a single female can produce 20 or more egg sacs in her lifetime. The problem compounds quietly — until it doesn’t.

Janus Pest Management has been managing Southern California spider populations since 2005. Our approach is built on biology, not boilerplate.

How Janus Controls Spiders

Inspection & Species ID

We identify what’s present, where it’s nesting, and what’s attracting it. Black Widows, Brown Widows, and Wolf Spiders each require a different approach — and guessing wastes time.

Egg Sac & Web Removal

Web removal without egg sac removal is incomplete service. We remove both at every visit to cut the reproductive cycle before it compounds. One Brown Widow female can produce 20+ sacs — each containing up to 130 eggs — Black Widows up to 300 per sac.

Targeted Residual Treatments

We treat the zones spiders use — eaves, windows, doorways, exterior lighting, under decks, floor/wall junctures — with residuals matched to the site and species. Webs are cleared, surfaces treated, done.

Exclusion & Environmental Management

We identify entry points and recommend repairs to close them. We also address what draws spiders in the first place: exterior lighting that attracts insect prey, vegetation staged too close to the structure, moisture, and clutter near the foundation.

Janus Service Guarantee

Effective pest suppression—Guaranteed results: Sighting target pests between your scheduled visits? Janus will return and re-treat the area at no additional cost to you.

Double Protection: Spiders & Wasps

Janus controls spider populations — removing webs, eliminating egg sacs, and treating harborage zones around your home. In doing so, we also remove a primary food source that attracts wasps to nest nearby, reducing the buildup of stinging insects on your property. It’s not a separate service. It’s just how comprehensive pest control works.

ProTip: Essential Steps to Spider-Proof Your Home

Most spider pressure starts outside — these steps address it at the source.

View Tips

Simple structural improvements and consistent habits make a meaningful difference in spider pressure — here’s where to focus:

  • Seal entry points — close cracks and openings around the foundation, including utility and pipe penetrations
  • Web and egg sac removal — regularly clear webs and egg sacs from eaves, doorways, windows, and patio furniture; removing egg sacs breaks the breeding cycle
  • Landscape clearance — trim branches and shrubbery at least 2 feet from the structure to eliminate direct access routes
  • Outdoor lighting — warm-colored LED fixtures attract fewer flying insects, reducing pressure at entry points
  • Yard sanitation — store firewood at least 20 feet from the structure and 5 inches off the ground; keep garbage in sealed containers
  • Structural repairs — replace worn weatherstripping and repair loose mortar around the foundation and basement windows
  • Boxes and outdoor items — shake out or inspect outdoor furniture, firewood, and delivered boxes before bringing them inside; spiders and egg sacs hitchhike readily on these surfaces
