Occasional Invaders

Get the Janus Advantage Over Pests

Say Goodbye to Occasional Invaders

The term “occasional invaders” might sound ominous, but it’s just a practical way of describing those pesky dooryard critters—like centipedes, crickets, earwigs, stinkbugs, and even scorpions—that occasionally sneak inside. No need to worry, though—Janus has effective solutions to keep them at bay. Let’s tackle this together!

What Lures Them to Your Place

These pests are commonly found outdoors, but as cooler weather and seasonal rains arrive, they start searching for a warm hideaway. They can sneak inside through tiny cracks, gaps around foundations, poorly fitted screens, or even hitch a ride on firewood and potted plants. During autumn, homeowners often notice these unwanted guests more frequently as they look for warmth. Live near the foothills? Scorpions, while less common, can also find their way inside during the warmer months. Fortunately, we’re experts at keeping them out and ensuring your home stays pest-free.

Strategic Lighting: Prevention by Design

Some types of outdoor lighting attract insects more than others. As part of a science-based IPM strategy, managing light frequency is a simple yet effective way to reduce pest pressure on your structure.

The Attraction Hierarchy Not all bulbs are created equal. To minimize “night-flying” insect attraction, consider the following hierarchy:

  • Highest Attraction: Incandescent (Avoid near entries)

  • Moderate: Compact Fluorescent & Halogen

  • Lower: LED Cool-Color

  • Lowest Attraction: LED Warm-Color / Yellow Spectrum

The “Push-Pull” Strategy (Commercial & Estate) For complex environments, we utilize the “Push-Pull” method to relocate pest pressure away from sensitive areas:

  • Push: Use Sodium-vapor (Na) bulbs near the structure to minimize attraction.

  • Pull: Use Mercury-vapor (Hg) bulbs at the perimeter to draw insects away from building entries.

Expertise in Every Detail Janus Pest Management provides the professional insights and exclusion repairs necessary to secure your property. We don’t just treat the symptoms; we manage the environment.
